BERTA, Joseph (Joe) Anton (1953-2022)
Joseph Anton Berta, passed away peacefully, on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. Joe will certainly be remembered for his kindness, wit, and sense of humour, and for his love of people. It seemed everybody knew Joe, whether it was through his bowling leagues, or slo-pitch league. Everyone also knew his favourite band was The Rolling Stones, which he saw numerous times. When his boys were growing up, their dad was their biggest fan. He was either on the bench for hockey games, coaching their soccer and baseball teams, or just cheering from the sidelines. He was also involved as a Beaver Leader. Joe had jerseys from almost every hockey team, but there was only one team he cheered for, his Toronto Maple Leafs. Joe was at one time employed at DDM Plastics, where he was a much-respected supervisor.
Joe is survived by his two loving sons, Jesse and Jamie and their mother Donalda. He is also survived by his sister Bettyann, and brothers Dave (Cathy), Tom (Rita, 2019), Gary (Susan, 2012), a brother-in-law Albert Ykema (late Susie, Oct. 2022) and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his mother Sadie (2001). He will be greatly missed by his friends and by his other family at Broadway House. Cremation has taken place, and there will be a Celebration of Joe’s Life held early in the new year. Memorial donations in Joe’s memory can be made to the “CMHA- Thames Valley” or to the “TDMH Foundation” via Joe’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes- Burial and Cremation Services Inc., 262 Broadway, Tillsonburg (519)842-4238, entrusted with all arrangements, with confidence.
