Joseph “Alex”‘s Obituary
COTTREAU, Joseph Alexander “Alex” – age 89, Wedgeport, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2022 at home with family by his side. Born September 12, 1932 in Wedgeport, he was the son of the late Harry and May (Corporon) Cottreau. In his early years Alex was a meat cutter at the Wedgeport Co-op, he was in the military from 1957 to 1980. He then opened Yvonne’s Take Out with his wife and ran it with her and their two daughters. In 1988 he worked as a civil engineer at the Yarmouth Armories until the early 1990’s. Alex enjoyed wood working, camping and Bluegrass, he was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 42 years. He was also an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6505, Wedgeport. Alex was a man of few words, when he did speak, he had something to say. Alex is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Yvonne (Boudreau) Cottreau, their children Percy (Colette) Cottreau, Marsha (Chris) Landsborough, Joyce (Joe) Huitema, Gloria (Randy) Cottreau, Carol (Lawrence) Cottreau Vickery and Kim (Chris) Cottreau. Also surviving are siblings Anna Cottreau, Rose Pothier, James Cottreau, Eddie Cottreau and Leonard Cottreau; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Aside from his parents he is predeceased by siblings Pauline Corporon, Edmond Cottreau, Percy in infancy and Percy age 6. A graveside service will be held on Friday February 11, 2022 at 11 a.m. from St. Michaels Cemetery, Wedgeport. Memorial donations may be made to St. Michaels Cemetery Fund. We were able to honor dad’s wish to be able to stay at home until his passing with the help of homecare – Susan whom he adored, his family and Paula who made his last weeks at home very comfortable. We thank you ladies from the bottom of our hearts, along with Dr. Charelle Dulong and VON nurses who took care of dad’s needs until the end. Arrangements have been entrusted to H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes, Yarmouth.
