Harthauer, Josef
The family of Josef Harthauer, born December 17, 1927, are saddened to announce his death on November 10, 2022, with family by his side. Even though we are sad, we are also happy that we have fulfilled his last requests.
Josef emigrated from Germany in 1956 on a freighter named the Rosa Kulm with his young wife and daughter. Once settled in Hamilton, he applied his craft as a cabinet maker and became well known in the Golden Horseshoe. His work included the mayor’s desk, Dundurn Castle, and different works for the church.
Josef is finally released from his earthly restraints and now may rest in peace.
He is survived by his children Josef Harthauer (Adrienne), Doris Dion (John), Marion Dion (Steve Stoddard), Helga Cappa (Ralph), Monique Valvasori (Dave), Marie Ehler (Ralph Busche), Loren Valvasori (Mike), and John-Paul Harthauer (Rita Morris). Ex-wives Linda Harthauer, best friend and fondly remembered by Ingeborg Jutte. Grandchildren Emmett Harthauer, Erica Steinly, Lisa Dion, Janet Riou, Brian Cappa, the late Derek Cappa, Samantha Valvasori, Nicky Valvasori, Jack Valvasori, Nathan Ehler, Loudon Ehler, Julian Ehler, Jesse Valvasori, Max Valvasori, Rianna Valvasori, Jessica Marr and nine great grandchildren.
Special thank you to Josef’s Extendicare family, the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital West Wing 3rd Floor palliative care unit and the A.D.R.A.S. Team for their dedicated kindness, care and compassion.
As per Josef’s request, cremation has taken place. No funeral will be held, but a celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 11:00-4:00pm at 7 Roelfson Drive, Ancaster. Online condolences can be made to www.dermodys.com
