Obituary of John Arnold Strachan
John Arnold Strachan
March 4, 1939 – November 24, 2022
John passed away peacefully at the Broadview Nursing Centre on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022 in his 84th year. Beloved husband for 53 years to Shelley (nee Ridgeway). Loved father of Stephanie (Ian Gray) and Douglas (Krista Gemmill), and loved Grampy to Sam, Isobel, Ainsley and Logan. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Bessie (Brown) Strachan. Brother to Frances (the late Bill Carmody), Thomas (the late Pauline) and Mary Lynn (Alex Mathieson). Fondly remembered by his nephews and niece. John retired in 1993 after a 30-year career as an Ontario Conservation Officer. For many years, he and his dogs (first Boots, then Abby and, most recently, Bailey) were well known for their long walks around Perth, greeting many friends and neighbours along the way. John was an avid photographer, capturing beautiful images of birds, wildlife and people, as well as amazing sites during a photography trip to China. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the “Lunch Bunch” and the friends he made through photography. Many thanks to the staff at the Great War Memorial Site of the Perth & Smiths Falls Hospital, and to Broadview Nursing Centre for the wonderful care they provided to John during his brief time there. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. West, Perth, on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery at a later date. In remembrance, contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
