We are sad to announce the passing of John Jones who died peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022, at the Sault Area Hospital. John had been battling chronic lung disease and for the past two years had been attempting to qualify for a double lung transplant.
John leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Audrey Budlong-Jones. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Irene Jones of Cockburn Island, then of Sault Ste Marie. John is survived by his sister Elda Roberts (late George) and brother Don (late Karen Montgomery-Jones) and sister-in-law Marg (late Tom Jones). Predeceased by his brother Elgin Jones (late Marilyn), sisters Velvie Willis (late “Bud” Ernest Ross Willis), Bessie Ambeault (late Charles, late Rusty Gibbs). John was Uncle to many Nieces, Nephews, Great and Great Great Nieces and Nephews.
John was a proud and well-respected Journeyman Electrician who loved his work and his many co-workers at Algoma Steel. John was a friend of Jack Purvis and greatly enjoyed his time working on the tugboats with Purvis Marine. John was an accomplished worker under the water as well and did inspection and repair work on wharves and various water intake sites in the Great Lakes area.
John loved his time with his many friends on Cockburn Island and used every opportunity to spend as much time there as he could. His electrical and mechanical talents were often put to good use on Cockburn Island.
On April 8, 1989, John married Audrey Budlong, who lived in Sault Michigan where they both agreed to live and enjoyed their life on the American side while John continued to work on the Canadian side of the river.
Cremation has taken place and any future plans will be announced.
