John Wilfred Gill Burnell Thursday October 20th 2022

BURNELL, John Wilfred Gill
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of John Wilfred Burnell. Born on April 9th, 1942 he passed on October 20th, 2022, 80 years young. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandra, son John (Brenda), daughters Chris (Richard), Jennifer and Rita, grandchildren Amanda, Jennifer, John, Jacob and Andrew and great grandchildren Victoria and Cameron and brother to Bonnie, Beth and Barry.
As a young man, John was a sailor on the HMCS Iroquois. Docked in Halifax, it was there he met Sandra and they moved back to Hamilton and eventually settled in Caledonia to live and raise their family. As a longtime resident of Caledonia, John was heavily involved with Caledonia Ringette, both as a father and as a coach. He retired from the Stelco 20″ Mill and was heavily involved with St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church.
The ultimate family man, John can rest knowing his legacy has been passed down through the generations. John as Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Papa, your love, strength and quiet guidance is already missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to St. Patrick’s Church, Caledonia. A funeral Mass will be held in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, in Caledonia, on Friday, October 28th, 2022 at 11am. A Celebration of Life will follow from 12-2pm in the lower church hall.
