JOHN “JACK” STUART
John “Jack” Richard Stuart, 90, of Cedarcroft Place, Stratford, formerly of Mitchell and Toronto, passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Monday, October 24th, 2022.
He was the youngest son of T.C.L. “Pete” and Ethelwyn (Brown) Stuart of Mitchell. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife, of 55 years, Nylle (Doig) Stuart in 2012. Beloved father of Catherine Culligan (Howard), Robert Stuart (Margaret Crothers), William Stuart, and Janet Stuart (Orville Blake).
Loving grandfather of Simon and Anne Culligan (Tom Pickering), Evelyn Durst (Michael) and Veronica Stuart. Dear great-grandpa of Haddie McLaughlin, Ayva, and Lucas Culligan, and Emma and Thomas Pickering. Jack is also survived by his sister Donna Sutherland of Burlington, his sister-in-law Doris Stuart of Salmon Arm B.C., and was a loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, Jack was predeceased by his in-laws Robert and Florence Doig of Egmondville, brother Bill Stuart, grandson James Culligan, brother and sister-in-laws Andrew, Margaret and Murray Doig, John Lilly (Sr.), Isabelle McDougall, Janet and Bill Senior, Hugh Sutherland, and nephews Bob Moorhead, John McDougall, Richard “Ricky” Doig, and John Lilly.
Jack was employed by CIBC, starting work in Mitchell and retiring after 44 years in Toronto. He made many friends during these years and would often share fond memories of them with his family. He retired to Mitchell in 2000, becoming an active member of the Mitchell Lions Club and Knox Presbyterian Church, Mitchell. He enjoyed the friendships and the fellowship there. He also enjoyed serving as a past board member at the Ritz Lutheran Villa. Jack had a lifelong love of the outdoors which he shared with his family, enjoying many happy times and lifelong memories camping, hiking, canoeing and kayaking together. He was surrounded by good neighbours and enjoyed his front porch chats and visits with them.
Special thanks for the exceptional care that Jack received while at S.G.H Medicine floor from Dr. Chang, nurses Jodi, Brandi, Laurie, Sherrie, Kyra and more. Their end of life compassion was greatly appreciated by Jack’s children. Also, thanks to all the staff at Cedarcroft Place for all their care, and for always putting a smile on Jack’s face.
A celebration of Jack’s life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations to Parkinson Canada or The Arthritis Society would be appreciated and may be made at LockhartFuneralHome.com.
