John Phil Skulsky 2022

Obituary for
John Phil Skulsky
On January 31, 2022, John (Phil) Skulsky passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years.
Phil will be remembered fondly by his family, Joel (Elaine) Skulsky and Janice (Ross) Plecash; grandchildren, Ryan, Doug, Danielle (Paul), Jennifer and Leah; sister, Phyllis, sisters-in-law, Rose and Mary; and numerous extended relatives and friends.
Phil was kind, generous and always putting his family first. He was a gentle man and a gentleman in the truest possible way.
Growing up on a farm near Hilliard, Phil lived in Edmonton for most of his life, though he and his family spent several years in Redwater and Norman Wells. An avid sports fan, he loved cheering on the Eskimos and Oilers, curling and golfing. He enjoyed travel, visiting Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, and taking cross-Canada and Western US tours. He was particularly proud of being a teacher and of his long career with Imperial Oil.
Phil was most happy hosting barbeques, getting together with friends to play cards, and spending time with his grandchildren, reading, telling stories, and watching Disney movies.
Phil was predeceased by his wife, Emily; son, John; siblings, Eugene and Elsie.
Thank you to the staff at Devonshire for their care and compassion, particularly those who work on the Brighton Wing.
A private service will be held at Rosehill Cemetery.
In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS).

  1. We had the great honour of meeting Phil while he lived at Devonshire. Our mom Jean was his neighbour. Phil was a gentleman and we enjoyed his stories of Norman Wells and his family. It was a pleasure to know him and spend time together. Please accept our deepest sympathy to your families.
