John “Happy” Peter Raynor
May 8, 1947- April 2, 2022
With profound sadness and eternal gratitude for his life, the family of John “Happy” Raynor announce his sudden passing. Devoted husband and dear soulmate of Sue, (nee Jarrett) beloved father of Sarah and Jason and a most doting Grandpa to dearest Sophie. Wonderful brother of Faye Murray and George (Marion) and the late Charles “Nibs” (MaryAnn), and the late Phyliss Burge (Cliff), treasured brother in law of, Janet Engbers (Pete), Ann Vernon (Rick) and the late Margaret Tamm (Lem) and many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins. Son of the late Charlie and Ann Raynor. Nothing has given him more delight than the lives of his children, Jason and Sarah and his treasured Granddaughter Sophie. He was proud when he spoke of their accomplishments and his face lit up with joy whenever Sophie was present. John, born in Toronto Ontario, and longtime resident of Port Credit Mississauga. Joyful and happy from the start, his family quickly nicknamed him “Happy” or “Hap” for short, the name of John was rarely mentioned. He made the most of life and believed by being happy, he could make the world a happier place. Forever humble, he met each and every person and situation assuming he could find joy in their presence. John attended Lakeshore Teachers College, McMaster University and Niagara University for his Masters of Education. He worked for the Peel Board of Education for 35 years and was a devoted teacher and colleague. He was an active member of St. John’s United Church in Oakville where he married Sue on March 21st 1970 and took on many leadership roles throughout the years. John found peace amongst his flowers in his treasured Garden. He tenderly cared for his “babies” and neighbours could always count on seeing him out on the porch admiring his hard work and talking to all those who passed by. John adored music, constantly humming and singing. He enjoyed majestic hymns and found so much joy singing in the church choir. He was an avid collector and one of his favourite things was to scour antique stores searching for the perfect addition to his collections. In his retirement he could be found volunteering in the packing room at Kerr Street Mission, his laughter resonating throughout the halls. He and Sue enjoyed travelling and visiting many historical areas around the world. Being amongst nature was another joy of Johns. He could be found sitting peacefully deep in the woods of Muskoka, contemplating life and the beauty around him. He loved to eat, cook and prepare food, as a way of showing his kindness to others. “He served love on a platter”. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to St. John’s United Church, Halton Learning Foundation, Kerr Street Mission.
