John “Jack” MacNicol. Born August 11, 1942, Jack died peacefully December 28, 2022. He was predeceased by Jean, his wife of 49 years, and is survived by his two daughters, Alexis and Glynnis, and three grandchildren, Quinn, Zoe, and Connor. He was a part of an extended family with Bud and Patsy Browne, late of Waterloo, ON.
Jack was raised in Noranda, Quebec and, despite technically being born in Toronto, Ontario, remained loyal to the Montreal Canadiens his entire life. He attended Scollard Hall in North Bay, and entered the Congregation of the Resurrection in Dundas, Ontario, maintaining lifelong friendships with people he met in both places.
After Jack left the seminary, he finished his Honors B.A. at St. Jerome’s, University of Waterloo. It is here he met Jean, a brilliant fellow student. Dazzled by her brains and beauty, they married in 1968.
Jack will be remembered for his love of opera, his years of work with the Richmond Hill Aquatic Club, his passion in later life for substitute teaching French, his faithful following of the Toronto Blue Jays, and his penchant for making grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate milkshakes.
We are especially grateful to the staff at Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill, Ontario for their kindness and attention to Jack in his final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hill House.
We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of John MacNicol Wednesday December 28th 2022 and hope that their memory may be a source of comfort during this difficult time. Your thoughts and kind words are greatly appreciated.
