John shared a knowledge and respect for the great outdoors with his children and grandchildren that they carry with them. His love and passion for our family log cabin built in Kinmount was enjoyed and treasured. As a four-season property, John groomed trails for summer hikes and winter skiing. Always the adventurer, John canoed the Trent Severn lock system, explored every corner of Canada and embraced the culture of the many countries that he travelled to worldwide. He was forever learning and loved gaining new knowledge about people and places.
John studied Geology and graduated with a science degree from St. Francis Xavier in 1958. He received his Education degree from U of T in 1959 and completed his Math Specialist courses at Queen’s University.
He taught in Iroquois, Crestwood High School and he retired in 1988 after 19 years as Head of the Math department at St. Peter’s Secondary School. He was so respected and loved by his students and fellow teachers who to this day share stories of Mr. Jones’ Math classes.
John has always been very active, devoted and committed to his faith. He actively volunteered with the Sisters of St. Joseph after he retired.
He was on the Marycrest Board, the development of Inglewood Seniors Residence and Chair of Financial Advisory Property Committee for many years for St. Joseph’s at Fleming. He was involved with the new building of Mount St. Joseph.
We honour John’s legacy with these words, “He achieves success who lives well, laughs often, and loves much…. Who leaves the world better than he finds it. who always looks for the best in others and gives them the best he has.”
We know those who know him will never forget how he made them feel.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Canterbury Gardens, Peterborough Hospice, PRHC, Dr Beamish and Dr Sundar for their amazing care, comfort and kind support that they gave John and all of us on his journey.
