John’s Obituary
SURETTE, John Leander – Age 85, passed away peacefully on December 13th, 2022 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born March 2nd, 1937 in Pinkney’s Point., he was the son of the late Edward and Alice (Saulnier) Surette. After graduating from Yarmouth High and Vocational schools in the fifties, he got his first job as a Linotype operator for the Yarmouth Herald where he worked for a couple years, before being employed by the Federal Government in Ottawa in the reproduction of Topographic maps and charts for 26 years. Upon retiring at age 50, he returned home to own and operate a convenience grocery store for another 5 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, council 2181, Yarmouth and an associate Legion member branch 61, Yarmouth. He liked mostly all sports, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. He enjoyed playing bowling, pool, cribbage and dancing. Although he had a slight physical handicap, he never let that get in his way. Seems many knew John no matter who you asked. He is survived by sons, Ted (Louise) Sydney, Australia, Robert (Mylene and grandsons James, John and Joseph) Ottawa, sisters Phyllis (Avite) Saulnier, Pinkney’s Point, Dorothy (Norman) Cochrane, Meadows, Yarmouth, Carolyn (Evariste) d’Eon, Pinkney’s Point., Marion (Neil) Blanchard, Quinan, Dianne (Burton) Muise, Sluice Point. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister at birth and wives Gloria and Rosalie. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Yarmouth. There will be a gathering in celebration of John’s life at Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth on Tuesday, December 22nd from 2 to 4 p.m., with prayers at 2 p.m.. There will be a light lunch being held in the reception area of the funeral home for those gathered. It has been requested that there be family flowers only.
