John William Kamke
October 16, 1956 – January 15, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Kamke on January 15, 2022 at the age of 65.
He is survived by his sister Wanda (Len) Bergman, nephews Benjamin (Amara) and Daniel (Rachel) as well as great-nephews Silas & Tycho. John loved animals, especially cats, and Rascal was his faithful companion to the end.
John was predeceased by his parents William and Eva Kamke.
John attended elementary school in Libau, Manitoba. He graduated from high school at Selkirk Regional Secondary School. After graduation he immediately started working at Black Cat (Amsco Cast Products) in Selkirk, Manitoba. John took pride in his work and faithfully served until his retirement in September 2016. He made many good friends there over these years.
John was an avid reader, with particular interest in history, and liked to retell (in GREAT detail) stories and events he read about. John maintained a coin collection and his keen memory and attention to detail also served him well with this hobby. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and sharing the delicious meals that these produced.
As John’s health declined over the last few years he was not able to keep up his hobbies and gradually required more care. We would like to express our appreciation to Home Care and all the medical professionals for their care of John. In particular we would like to thank his close friends for the many phone calls to check in on him and for frequently dropping in to take care of his many needs; these were very much appreciated.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate his life will take place at a later date.
