John Joseph Healey
June 23, 1933 – October 3, 2022
A long time resident of St. John’s, originally from Fox Harbour Placentia Bay, passed away after a long illness at home 3 October 2022 at the age of 89. Beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He leavesto mourn his loving wife of 60 years Mary (nee Cochrane), son John (Laura), daughter Yvonne, son Robert (Lidia), grand children Courtney, Jared, Kate, Chad, Sahara, Guilliana, sister Elizabeth (Betty), and brother Tom.
A quiet, strong and confident person who cared deeply for his family. A man with many interests who enjoyed talking politics, an excellent listener, loved being outdoors, and thoroughly enjoyed using his hands to craft things that will live on in his memory. In the last few years he wrote a series of short stories about his life as a young man growing up in Fox Harbour in the 1930s and 1940s. These musings provide a perspective and insight to a time that few of us know, they give such joy and an inside view to the man we love and respect. The musings were combined with family photos to create a book that has quickly become a valuable family keepsake. He was deeply unselfish and always ready to help those that he could. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road 0n Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Funeral 11 a.m. on Thursday from Caul’s Chapel with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Columbarium.
