McKellar – John (Jack) Robert
Peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 17, 2022. Jack is survived by his wife Susan; his two children Robert and Margaret (Michael); his granddaughter Erin; and his siblings Nancy (Greg), Neil (Charlotte), and MaryAnne (Chris); and nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Jack and Susan had 58 steadfast years of marriage, despite the high school sweethearts’ first tippy date in a canoe. They eventually settled in the village of Kars where, with the help of neighbours and friends, they built the home in which they would raise their children and later welcome their granddaughter on joyful visits.
From a young age, Jack worked hard, taking on several jobs to help support his mother and younger siblings, though that work never got in the way of his hijinks as his classmates and a pocketful of snakes could attest. His true calling was aerospace research, and his creativity and exceptional technical skills led to his prominent role at the National Research Council 9m wind tunnel. In ‘retirement’ he also consulted for DeHavilland and was a flight test engineer at Bell Helicopter.
In addition to his work, Jack had many other passions. He was a world-class marksman and craftsman and competed for Canada internationally for decades. He loved the cold outdoors and fishing. He enjoyed ski weekends with friends and exploring the vast expanse of Canada from Newfoundland to the Yukon with Susan.
Jack touched many lives, and he is deeply missed by family and friends. The family is welcoming friends to a visitation at the Kars Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home 1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars on Saturday, October 22nd from 3pm – 6 pm. A celebration of life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Kars on Sunday, October 23rd at 2pm.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of John Jack Robert McKellar July 24 1942 October 17 2022 (age 80)..
