John Jack Patrick Power 1935 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of John (Jack)
Patrick Power of Dunville announce his sudden passing on
December 16, 2022.
Predeceased by his wife Clarice (Newhook) Power (d. 2021),
parents Tom Power and Mary (Griffiths) Power, and brother David
Power.
Jack is survived by his brother Tom Power (Toronto),
sister-in-law Catherine “Kitty” Power, and
a host of nieces and nephews on both sides of his
family.
Jack enjoyed a successful career at the Argentia military
base, employed by the U.S. Navy, and retired as a civilian member of
that force, having worked with, and for, the many servicemen and women
during the heyday of “The Base”.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting birds and
rabbits, trout fishing and, earlier in life, camping with Clarice. He
spent many holidays camping at Jack’s Pond Park with Gordon
and Jane Newhook and their children and much time with his
Newhook and Power families. He was a delightful and constant presence
in both.
Jack and Clarice had no children, but held their nieces and
nephews in special regard and attention. Jack loved to yarn and laugh
and was great company, always hilarious, but never at
anyone’s expense. Jack was a gentle man in every
regard, and was keen and interested in all whom he
met.
Many heartfelt thanks to Beachside Manor and to the many
people who showed such great care, compassion,
and companionship to Jack in his later years. He will be
dearly missed.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher’s Funeral Home,
Placentia, with visitation on Monday, December 19th from 7pm to
9pm. Mass of Christian Burial to take place 10:30am on
Tuesday, December 20th at St. Anne’s Church, Dunville.
Inurnment to follow at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast
Placentia.
