If you knew dad you undoubtedly have a funny story . He loved to make people laugh. There was nothing to foolish for him to do or say. If he was trying to tell you something funny he was laughing before he finished the story and you were laughing too even though you didn’t know what was so funny , he had an infectious laugh . If he laughed then you cracked up at him laughing.
As a young man he worked on the boats as a cook. He had many stories to tell of his travels and he’d add at the end of his story “ and I never poisoned anyone “, he just had to get a laugh out of you. In 1963 he moved to St. John’s and worked at St. Clare’s Hospital until he retired.
He thoroughly enjoyed the last nearly 30 years he spent at his cabin in Mahers with his wonderful friends. Always a game of cards on the go, a drop to drink and his favourite Newfoundland music.
The last few years he suffered from dementia but he never lost his sense of humour, made me laugh right to the end. I am so going to miss that silly grin and foolish laugh but heaven just got a whole lot livelier. Put the kettle on mom, ya knows his first words to you will be what have ya got fer a lunch.
Many thanks to the staff of 3 south at PJSMP in Carbonear for your kindness and compassion.
Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be taken to Pools Island to be buried with his parents at a later date .
We will never forget someone who has given us so much to remember.
We’ll sure miss you but heaven is sweeter with you there.
