JOHN HERMAN DERKSEN
JULY 1, 1935
MARCH 7, 2022
John passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Monday March 7, 2022 at the age of 86.
He leaves to cherish his memory brothers Bill (Liz) and Bob (Gail) as well as his nieces and nephew . John was predeceased by his parents Jacob T and Aganetha Derksen; siblings Mary, Jake, Henry and Ida.
Born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, John worked in Yukon’s mining industry. He loved his time there and always mentioned wanting to return. When he came back to Winnipeg, he worked in the warehouse industry.
John enjoyed playing Baseball in the senior leagues in Winnipeg, and played well into his 60’s. He was always very active and could be seen walking around Elmwood and St Boniface making his rounds. Another one of Johns passions was traveling. A couple of his favourite destinations were Las Vegas and Mexico.
Back in 2017, John had heart surgery at St Boniface Hospital. The family would like to thank the staff for the excellent care they provided him. The family wishes to also thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for taking good care of John.
He will truly be missed by his family and friends. In John’s memory, donations can be made to the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum at 111C Gilmour Avenue, Morden, Manitoba, R6M 1N9. Email: mbbbhof@mts.net
