John Gordon Everett Tuesday November 22nd 2022

“All the leaves are brown, and the skies are grey” now that our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, John Everett has died. On Tuesday, November 22, John, just 2 weeks shy of his 73rd birthday, passed away at Napanee Hospital after a battle with cancer. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 50 years, Juanita, his children Catherine (Raj), Gregory, Caralyn, and Michelle (Logan), and his beloved granddaughters Majel and Bristol. He will be sorely missed by his sister Diane Wilton (John) and brother Barry (Heather), as well as his lifelong friends Bob Smith and Dave Hill.
John was an entrepreneur, a tinkerer, and a maker. His entrepreneurial spirit likely came from his Dad, Don Everett, who owned a north Toronto Sunoco station in the 1960s where John pumped gas and helped his Dad tinker with cars. It was this entrepreneurial spirit that brought John, Juanita, and their kids to Napanee in 1980 to take over ownership of Sundowner Park on South Shore Hay Bay. Later, as owner of Red Wing Computers in Kingston and his own computer consulting business, John helped several local businesses and farms move into the 21st century.
Not only did John have the thrill of seeing the Beatles perform live at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1965, he proved their point that “love is all you need.” His mother, Margaret, gave him a passionate sense of service to the community, which led him to be involved in a number of volunteer endeavours such as Scouts, Kinsmen, blood donation, and the CCARES Victim Response team. Every Christmas Eve, John made sure that local hospital patients, firefighters, paramedics, and police services got to feel a bit of Christmas spirit with a visit from Santa Claus. His final gift to our community was the gift of sight, through a corneal donation.
A celebration service of John’s life will be held on Saturday, January 7th, 2:00p.m. at Wartman Funeral Home, Napanee.
In remembrance, the family asks that folks consider making a donation to a charity of their choice, or even better- spend a few hours with a local volunteer organization. We’ve “gotta keep those lovin’ good vibrations a-happenin’”
