Obituary
William John Fraser
We are sad to share the passing of John after complications following heart surgery at the age of 77.
“The Old Boy” had an absolutely wonderful life!! John was born and raised in Huttonville Ontario. The only child of Wilt and Isabel, John loved being a “Fraser”. He loved all of his extended family, and they loved him.
John met his future wife, soulmate, and true best buddy Cathy while both attended Streetsville Secondary School. They built a wonderful life together. John could not have been more proud of his daughter Johnalee and her husband Ian. His pride and joy was ultimately his lovely granddaughter Isabel.
A life long educator, John was the Head of Phys-Ed, teaching for 33 years at Bramalea Secondary School. He felt that his career was a true gift, always saying that he had never worked a day in his life.
Coach Fraser made a tremendous difference in so many of his students lives. He would coach Football, Track and Field, and Wrestling year round, instilling the love of sport, commitment, and confidence in so many young adults. He was a favourite among his students, sharing his fantastic sense of humour, giving everyone nicknames that would last forever.
John was a tremendous athlete himself enjoying golf and curling with his most formidable competitor Cathy!
John was not just a coach and mentor to his students. He coached and supported Johnalee every step of the way as she became a Golf Professional herself . He continued to be his granddaughter’s number one fan in all of her amazing successes. His mantra was always “be brave and have fun”.
John enjoyed his retirement . He loved a great steak, telling a funny tale that had been told many a time before, or spending the afternoon at the driving range trying to reinvent the wheel.
He loved to golf with his life long friend Wes and the rest of the gang at Hornby Glen. Cathy and John continued their adventures down in Brunswick Plantation N.C each winter with all of their Southern friends. They loved to take their yearly cruises to new destinations. His favourite place though was enjoying time with his family up at his beloved cottage in Muskoka, being in charge of the barbeque, cooking his veggies in foil for all!!
As most of you know John was not a fan of funerals as they made him sad. At Coach Fraser’s request, John wanted you to celebrate his life by enjoying yours to the fullest!!!Go out and have a great game of golf.. Hit a good one for John!
