THERIAULT, John Ernest
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest who passed away peacefully at home in Meteghan River on Wednesday, August 31st, 2022 at the age of 80. Born in Meteghan Centre, he was a son of the late Augustin “Gus” and Elizabeth (Melanson) Theriault.
From 1975 to 1999, Ernest was president of A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd. He retired in 1999 due to ill health. He was a life-time member of the International Association of Lions Clubs. In October 2021 he was inducted into the Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame.
In 1991, Ernest started a long and courageous battle with cancer. In 1997 he had a bone marrow transplant donated by his brother, Russell.
Ernest was an avid hunter, loved to fish, clamming, listening to Blue Grass music and the outdoors. He also loved planting his garden and green house in Eel Lake with his good buddy, Emile. He always looked forward to winters in Florida.
Ernest leaves to mourn his loving wife of 60 years, Jody, Meteghan River; his three children who were his pride and joy, the late John (Blanche), Meteghan River; Julia Theriault, Meteghan River; David (Lisa), Eel Lake, Saulnierville; grandchildren, Dianne (Mike) LeBlanc, Eel Lake, Saulnierville; Nicole (Daniel) Comeau, Meteghan River; Vicky Melanson, Edmonton, Alberta; Janice Theriault, Miramichi, N.B.; Alain Theriault, Eel Lake, Saulnierville; great-grandson, Chase Comeau; siblings, Doreen (the late Raymond) Thimot, Meteghan Centre; Rose-Marie (Ralph) Dugas, Meteghan Centre; Arthur (Aimée), Meteghan River; Larry (Denise), Meteghan Centre; sister-in-law, Doris Theriault, Maxwellton; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Russell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Meteghan Funeral Home. A public graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 6th at 11 a.m. in Stella Maris Cemetery, Meteghan Centre where burial will follow.
