Obituary
John Douglas Proctor (Doug), passed peacefully at Foothills Hospital on December 21, 2022, at the age of 86. He was born April 6, 1936, in Calgary, Alberta, and is the beloved son of Johnny and Selma Proctor. Doug grew up at 131 12th Avenue NE where he met his lifelong friend Alan Parry. As a young man, Doug attended Balmoral School and graduated from Crescent Heights High School. Two days after graduating he began his career with Alberta Government Telephones (A.G.T.) now known as Telus. He remained at A.G.T. for his entire career, until his retirement in 1991.
His retirement days were filled with many trips to the zoo with his grandchildren, volunteering for the Calgary Spurs Jr. “A” hockey team, and walking along Edworthy Park with one of his dogs. He enjoyed acquiring various collections over the years which included a series of sports hats, coins, pins, and vintage license plates. Doug was a member at Northmount Baptist Church and could be found sitting in the back proudly running the sound system for many years.
Doug is survived by his daughter Brenda Porter; son Robert Proctor (Robin); and his grandchildren Amy, Brandon, Laura, and Emma.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Auditorium at Cambridge Manor (253 Smith St NW), on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 10:00 am.
