It is with great sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of John Allan Shelley Jr., a legendary husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the age of 65, piloting his beloved 1941 Grumman G-44 Widgeon Aircraft he tragically crashed just short of the Stratford Municipal Airport.
His presence and genuine personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Kim Shelley and was a dedicated father to Jillian Shelley, Jessica White (Craig) and Jacqueline Cameron (Jeremy). Loving grandfather of Mikian TeAo; Brayden and Kyla White; Jordyn, Madisyn and Bostyn Cameron. He will be extremely missed by his favourite companion Jack Jack. John always spoke highly of his family and valued his time with them. He enjoyed the many family adventures, memories, and accomplishments. Dear brother to Lauretta (Andy) Pisarczyk and brother-in-law to Kevin (Jo-Anne) McAlpine, as well as his many nieces and nephews. Son-in-law to George and Betty McAlpine. John left his great life to join his parents John Sr. and Josephine Shelley and many other friends and family. He was also a special friend of Lorie-Anne Williams and her family.
John always had a need for speed, from his “JRS JOY” drag racing days; Harley Davidson road trips; power boats on the Great Lakes; snowmobiling with his “Hideaway” family to flying high as a pilot. He was the epitome of living life to the fullest and wanted to share his wealth and talent with everyone he loved. His loyal and kind soul was bigger than any other. He was an amazing role model to many people and influenced countless people in our community. The 40-year legacy of Shelley Machine & Marine has been sustained in his name with his close-knit group of family, friends and employees. They all have serviced the industry with highest level of quality under his guidance. The entire Shelley family is grateful for all their hard work and honoured by the decision to work through this tragedy.
Cremation and a private service for close family have already taken place. Extended family and friends will be received for a Celebration of Life on September 24th, 2022. Details will be announced once confirmed.
In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Sarnia & District Humane Society, Alzheimer Society of Canada or Knox Moore Presbyterian Church and will be accepted by Smith Funeral Home.

Death notice for the town of: Sarnia, Province: Ontario
Shelley Family,
I am so sorry very for your loss.
My father (Paul) knew John better than I did, but I did know the incredible girls he and Kim were raising in the 80’s and 90’s, along with Kim’s impact on the Mooretown Public crew. The generosity of this family was unparalleled and I am forever grateful to have them woven into the story of my childhood.
Sincerest condolences to Jillian and the entire Shelley family,
Patricia Widmeyer (Pat Pevec)
