Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Alexander O’Hara. His sudden and unexpected death occurred on Monday, November 22, 2021 at home in Toronto, Ontario. He was 67.
John was born in Saint John, NB on February 11, 1954, the only son of the late Joseph C. O’Hara and Catherine C. (McCafferty) O’Hara.
Growing up in Saint John’s North End, John and his family lived for many years at Roberts Court, in the Rifle Range.
He was educated in Saint John area schools, St. Pius X, St. Peter’s, and Millidgeville North High School. He was a member of St. Pius X Church while living in Saint John.
John played Little League Baseball and hockey in his childhood. He was a long time and active member of the Saint John YMCA, and the community of the Y, and in later years of the YMCA in Toronto. Through the Y he had an interest in body building and weight training for most of his life.
John left home at an early age. He was a free-spirit who loved animals and nature. He had an interest in travel across the country having lived and worked in the Vancouver, BC area for many years, eventually moving to Toronto in the late 1990’s, where he lived until his death.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia (O’Hara) Fanjoy, and her partner, Andrew Maguire, of Sherwood Park, AB, one aunt, Winnifred O’Hara, numerous cousins in the Saint John area, in other parts of NB and across Canada and the US.
Arrangements have been made by Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd, Saint John. The funeral liturgy for John will take place at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on June 4, 2022 at 10:00am with interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations to an animal charity, or a charity of your personal choice would be appreciated by the family.
