John Archibald Nichol, age 91, of Quinte West passed away on the afternoon of May 16, 2022, in Belleville General Hospital. Dad battled in his final weeks, from a fall at home, but his body finally succumbed to additional medical issues. John was born in Stratford, November 12, 1930, the son of the late William and Ada (Hooper).
Loving husband of Marggie, who passed away December 22, 2010, John painfully missed Marggie so much through his remaining years. Dad was father to Cindy (Graham) and Dan (Paula) and grandchildren Michael (Melissa), Becky, Byron (Heather), Melissa (Ian), Sharon (Patrick), Matias (Maddie), Lucas, and Tobias. Great grandfather to Brayden, Caydence, Jordyn, Olivia, Charlotte, Aubrey, Brody, Logan and Madison. John was predeceased by his brothers, Carl Nichol (Isabel), Melvin Nichol (Helen), Howard Nichol (Vivian), and his sisters Lynna Nunez (Rumaldo), Ada Blanchard (Gordon) and Betty DeForrest. John was also predeceased by his brother-in-laws, Wesley (Ruby), Eddie, and Murray (Bernice). He had many nieces and nephews that he always would love to talk to on occasions over his life time and cared for all. John and Marggie met on a sleigh ride and a year or two later, on June 30, 1951, John married his loving bride. Starting in Stratford in 1950, and finishing in Brampton in 1985, John completed 35 years with Canadian National Railways. Dad fulfilled his retirement with many different activities and he and Mom were always busy with varying hobbies or initiatives that they would dive into to the greatest depth.
We will be having a Celebration of Life for John in the Reception Centre at W. G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday, June 26, from 2-4 p.m. with words of remembrance at 3 p.m. Please join us to celebrate John’s life.
