Obituary of Joan Slade
Joan passed peacefully away at her home on June 17th, 2022 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 74.
She was predeceased by the love of her life, Hayward Slade, parents, James and Mabel Taylor, and her brother, Winston (Jim) Taylor. Left to mourn her passing with cherished memories are her son, Darryl (Karen) Slade, daughter, Mona (Lorenzo) Burt, her precious granddaughters Brittany, Taylor, and Tori, sister-in-law, Dierdre Taylor, Brittany’s mom, Tracey McDonald, and a wide circle of family and friends.
She courageously battled cancer for six years, but never let it stand in her way. She always had a positive attitude and lived every day to the fullest. Joan moved to Bishop’s Falls in 1974, and immediately knew that this was her home. She made lifelong friends working at many businesses throughout the community and was affectionately known as “the Avon lady.” Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting Joan would be met with infectious laughter, a beautiful smile, and definitely a hug. Her door was always open and inside you would find a can of cookies in the fridge, a loaf of bread on the table, and a jar of homemade jam to put on your toast in the morning.
Joan’s pride and joy were her three granddaughters. She was incredibly proud of them, and never missed an opportunity to talk about how much she loved them.
As much as we loved her, she always made it clear that she loved us more.
Visitation will take place at Hoskins Funeral Home in Bishop’s Falls, NL on Tuesday, June 21 from 1-3 P.M. There will be a private family service following the visitation.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Lionel Kelland Hospice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Joan

So sorry to hear about your mom. We were friends for so many years, had so many laughs together going way back to torontodays when we were so young. She always had that loud laugh, and always in a good mood. I know your heart is broken as so is mine. God bless you all.
