Obituary of Joan Piasentin
On Saturday January 8, 2022 at 525pm eastern Joan Piasentin Stecyk passed peacefully and in the hands and hugs of her loved ones.
Joan was born on August 11, 1944 in a world war II refuge camp in Africa to Michael and Angela Stecyk, Polish and Ukranian refugees. Her birth name was Jadwiga Maria Stecyk but was know universally as Joan, Joanie and nonnie to her grandchildren. There she raised her boys and settled into her passions for friends and literature. She was known for her quick dry wit, love of laughter, loving compassionate nature, and a fierce, indomitable spirit.
Joan was preceded in death by her father Michael and mother Angela. She is survived by her sons and their children Aidan, Isabella, Mason, Marcus and Gavin and her nephews and nieces spread across the Canadian West. A private funeral service will be held on Friday, January 14th at 1pm at the Chapel at Dixon Garland Funeral Home at 166 Main St. N, Markham ON.

Death notice for the town of: Markham, Province: Ontario
I have such wonderful memories of times spent with the whole Piasentin family. There was always laughter, hospitality and warm friendship. I know how Joanie will be missed and I offer my deepest sympathy and love,

I am dismayed to read this news today. I want to offer you, Richard and Shawn, my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your mother.
Joan was a smart, sensitive and cosmopolitan woman who 36 years ago (1987) first visited my grandfather Roman Schlenk and then my family in Gerolstein. I, as her then 16-year-old great-nephew, visited the Piasentin family at their home in Markham a few weeks later.
I can still remember it very well: We laughed a lot, had very interesting, philosophical conversations, and made great trips into the area. It was an unforgettable experience, shaped very much by Joan’s inclusive nature and her insatiable, deep curiosity about life. For next year I planned to get in touch with her again and maybe visit her again. Now I regret not having done it sooner.
Richard and Shawn, I would be very happy if we could get in touch again in this way. If one of you reads this, please email me!
Warm, sincere greetings from Hamburg / Germany!
