Obituary of Joan Evelyn Matchett
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Joan Evelyn Matchett. Joan went to heaven on December 26, 2022, at the age of 89 and has joined her late husband Lionel Matchett (d.1996). Amazing loving mother of eight children; James (d.1999) & MaryDale, Pamela (d.1955), Debora, Brenda, Arlene (d.2015), Irene & Frank Baert, Caroline(Ross) and Kevin. Cherished grandma to Amanda (Bryan), Allison (Ben), Heather, Steven (Jodi), Chris (Julie), Sarah, Sofia & CJ. Joan is survived by eleven great-grandchildren. Anthony, Rachael, Robyn, Megan,Morgan, Ewan, Ella, Lola, Malachy, Emma-Lee and Carson. Sister to recently discovered (2019) much-loved brothers, Ron,James (d. 2019), Bill and Peter Bertram of Midhurstand Barrie Ontario. Dear lifelong friend of army pal and dance partner Albert Tapp. Joan loved life and embraced all its challenges. Wife of a1st RCR Sgt. Joan loved the new adventures the army life presented. Loving and caring for her family was her first love, but she made time to enjoy;cards, dancing, bowling, baseball, (Ladies Seniors League Baseball from age62-67) retiring in 2000 after achieving medals at the senior Olympics in Baton Rouge. Joan was a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. She was an easy-going, fun-loving person. Her home was always open to the many friends from work as well as the friends of all her children. At these gatherings, chaos was the norm and she thrived on it. “Throw another plate on the table and tuck in. The more the merrier!”. Joan worked at LHSC as a ward aide in the delivery roomand then as a unit clerk in the Burn Unit for 25 years before retiring. She made many friends wherever she went and made the best of life. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place and a future celebration of life will be planned.
