Joan Marie King, 81
Whitney Pier
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Joan Marie King, regret to announce her passing on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Glace Bay Hospital.
Born July 7, 1940, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anita (MacDonald) McCormick.
Joan married the love of her life, Billy, in June 1964. Together, they raised their family in Whitney Pier where they lived their entire life. Those who knew Joan, know how much family and friends meant to her. She had a kind heart, a wicked sense of humor, and was always giving back to community when she could. Mom was a social butterfly; she could make friends wherever she went and was loved by all.
If she wasn’t spending time with family or friends, you could find her listening to music in the kitchen baking and cooking, or at Membertou Casino having a good time.
Joan is survived by her son, Blair (Karen) King, Whitney Pier; her daughter, Kim (Dave) Linden, Whitney Pier; grandchildren, Ashley, Darnell, Chandra, Devynn, and Lukas; and great-grandsons, her little angels, Deshawn and Jayden; sisters, Sheila Burke, Sydney; sister-in-laws Helen Wadden, Joan Kolchetski, Esther (Frank) Keough, Carolyn Costigan all of Sydney, and Ann Pottie, Ontario; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband, William; sister, Shirley McCormick; brothers, Bernie McCormick and Dave McCormick.
Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Joan, will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Family and friends are invited to gather from 10-11 AM with service to follow at 11AM with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment will take place in Eastmount Cemetery, Whitney Pier.
Donations in memory of Joan may be made to BGC Cape Breton / Whitney Pier Youth Club.
The family would like to thank the numerous health professionals from Glace Bay Hospital long term care unit, and especially the doctors, nursing, and CCA staff of 4A at the regional hospital for ensuring Mom had the best care during her stay.
So, to quote Joan, “Love you more and see ya later buddy.”
