We, the family, regret to announce the peaceful passing of Joan Laurelle “Laurie” MacDonald on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the Glace Bay General Hospital in the company of the family she loved.
Born November 3, 1948, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Marguerite (White) MacDonald.
Laurie will be missed by her family and grandchildren that she adored immensely. She suffered for many years with chronic conditions, but now she is at peace and suffering no more.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Anne (Wallace), Westmount; son, Chris (Bonnie), Halifax; grandchildren, Julia, Christina, Mia and Annalisa; brother-in-law, Lyle Gauthier; and nephew, Rory Gordon MacDonald Gauthier.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Kerry Lee MacDonald.
We, her family, would like to thank the retirement community, especially Ronnie Ross, at 235 Alexandra Street for all the support and kindness they gave her over the 10 years she lived there. We would also like to thank the angels called nurses at the Glace Bay Hospital on the 4th floor for their loving care.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral or service. Instead, she asked to have her ashes sprinkled at Irish Cove on the Bras d’Or Lakes where she spent summers as a child on the beach with her mother. She always felt her most joyful days were those spent there.
Memorials may be made to the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca
