It is with saddened hearts that Joan (Kanyuk) McCarroll’s family announces she passed away peacefully at Fort Myers on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 92 years old.
Joan was born on October 19, 1930 in Kitchener Waterloo. She was the daughter of the later Victor and Margaret Lang and was predeceased by her younger brother William Lang also of Kitchener Waterloo. Joan married William Kanyuk on December 27, 1948 at the age of 18 in London, Ontario. She continued her married life with William until 1966 when they relocated to Sarnia, Ontario. Joan and William were married for 43 years and raised five kids until his death in 1992. They enjoyed traveling to Florida during the last decade of their marriage. Joan was the loving mother of Jim Kanyuk, Debbie Rose, Judy (Brian) Gould, Nancy Kanyuk (Kirk Schwein), her dear Robert Kanyuk (deceased).
Joan was a cherished grandmother of Nicole Kanyuk (Dave Hummel), Jackie Kanyuk, Jamie Kanyuk, Jodie Kanyuk, Evan Gould, Jason Schwein. She was also a great grandmother to Caleb Hummel and Carver Hummel. Jim Kanyuk was a devoted son to Joan who gave her his unwavering guidance and support. Joan had a relationship with all her nieces and nephews who treated “Auntie” Joan with love and respect.
On September 10, 1994 Joan married John McCarroll of Detroit in Marine City. She became a loving stepmother to three step children, James (Jacqueline) McCarroll of Rochester Hills, John (Deborah) McCarroll of Shelby Township and Nansie McCarroll, She will also be remembered by many sets of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Joan and John had 19 wonderful years of marriage until John’s death in November 2013.
Friends were important to Joan and she continued to be loyal to many from her marriage with William and with many friends with John, both in Lexington Michigan where she enjoyed summers and in Jupiter and Punta Gorda where she enjoyed winters and sunny weather. Throughout Joan’s life she was devoted to her Catholic faith. Joan had a zest for life, a love of life, a contagious sense of humour, a gift for talking to anyone. Joan survived many battles with cancer without complaint. Joan was truly an example of love, strength and courage. Lovingly remembered by family and friends. May Joan rest in the Peace of God.
A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
