Obituary of Joan Dorelle Palmer
Palmer, Joan Dorelle (1939 – 2022)
Joan Dorelle Palmer (nee Patterson), born March 21, 1939. Loving wife of Douglas Palmer for 61 years. Joan was born in Lindsay, Ontario, predeceased by her parents, Mabel and Lloyd Patterson, and predeceased by her brother Robert (Bob) Patterson. Joan moved to Port Hope with her parents in 1954, and attended Port Hope High School, where she met her future husband Doug, Joan was a very accomplished piano player in her youth and loved to play the piano for her friends and family.
She attended business school in Peterborough after finishing High School. She and Doug were married in June of 1960.
She had a wonderful working career, starting with AMF Atomics, later Eldorado Nuclear. She worked at Trinity College School for 25 years as a secretary. She was a people person and enjoyed her friends but mostly her family.
She is the mother of two sons, Greg (Lisa) and Kevin (Sharon) and their families, children and grandchildren. Her sister-in-law Joan Patterson and her nieces, Jody Araujo and Christine Patterson and their children. Joan and Doug enjoyed travelling to Dayton Beach each April and meeting all of their wonderful friends, for 25 years.
Joan loved to work in her gardens, and really enjoyed the flowers; she loved fashions, jewelry, and always was dressed immaculately. One of her passions was home decorating, which she continued on a daily basis. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Port Hope. The date to be determined at a later time. Covid 19, criteria will be adhered to as required.
The family would like to thank the Emergency staff at Northumberland Hills Hospital. The Stroke intervention team at St. Michaels Hospital, Toronto. The Stroke Recovery Department and team at Peterborough Regional Hospital; including the large number of surgeons at all locations. All of them are wonderful, professional people. As well, the ambulance attendants throughout this experience.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation; St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Port Hope, or a charity of your choice, in Joan’s name.
