Joan Bidyk 1944 2022

Joan Bidyk
1944 – 2022
On Wednesday, January 5, 2022, Heaven gained a beautiful angel as we said goodbye to our Mom, Gramma and G’ma. Joan Eileen Sharp was born on Saturday, October 21, 1944, in North Battleford, SK., to Everett and Eileen Sharp. She was raised on the farm in Saskatchewan and attended school at Arbor Hill and then Paynton Consolidated and this is where she met the man she would marry. Joan married Edward Nick Bidyk in a quaint little church in Paynton, SK., on April 15, 1963. They lived in Kindersley and Coleville before moving to Medicine Hat in 1971, making this their forever home. Joan was the best stay-at-home mom while we were little. She then worked at Pennington’s and eventually became manager for a number of years. Joan went back to school and took a Health Care Aide course and then worked for Home Care, a job she loved to do! Left to mourn and miss this wonderful lady are her family; children, Daryll, Cheryl (Keith) and Trevor; she was the best Gramma to Jayleen (Nate), Karissa (Josh), Kolby, Aaron (Terri) and Cassie (Austin); and a wonderful G’ma to her great-grandbabies, Adeline, Alden, Linden, Korri-Lynn, Axton, Austin, Savannah, Oliver, Kingston, Harrison, Thorston and Viviannah; brother, Wayne (Bea); sisters, Betty and Natalie (Brian); sisters-in-law, Deanna and Julie; brother-in-law, Ken (Linda) and sister-in-law, Joyce as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews and as mom would call her ‘an angel on earth’, her special niece, Kim (Paul). Joan was predeceased by her husband, Edward (2001); parents, Everett (1983) and Eileen (2019); in-laws, Mike (1994) and Mary (1992); two brothers, Vaughn (2012) and Neal (2018); brother-in-law, Marvin (1984); sister-in-law, Eveyln (2002); brother-in-law, Larry (2019) and her infant grandson, Landon (1994). One of the highlights for Joan was planning and celebrating her mother’s100th birthday party in 2019. She loved family gatherings no matter the occasion. Some of her favorite pastimes were camping, playing cards, watching curling and figure skating, scrapbooking, girls only trips to the States and more recently, playing her favourite games on her tablet and watching her favorite shows. Joan had the biggest heart and was a kind and gentle soul. Her family meant the world to her and she loved each and every one of them! Mom, we love you and we will always miss you! Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in place, the service honouring Joan’s life will be by invitation only. The Celebration of Joan’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with a gathering at Whiskey Creek next to Cook Southland (everyone is asked to use the South entrance). The chapel service will be live-streamed and anyone wishing to experience the service are encouraged to visit www.cooksouth land.com and select the View Broadcast Button on the homepage at service time. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Joan’s name may be made directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, 28 Oki Dr N.W., Calgary, AB. T3B 6A8 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Road N.E., Calgary, AB. T2E 2P5.
