July 1, 1927 – April 19, 2022
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Joan A. M. Gates. She slipped away peacefully at the age of 94 on April 19th 2022. She was born in the little green house on Hayes Rd. Larkin B.C. July 1st, 1927 to Charlotte (Hayes) and Arnold Edison.
As a girl she lived with her family in several remote rural communities where her mother taught in one room school houses. An excellent horse handler she spent her summers riding and working with the teams on her Grandfathers Thomas Hayes Ranch. That is where she met her loving husband Frank of 74 years, whom she married on August 24th 1943. They had 3 children. They lived their lives together in Armstrong and Spallumcheen. Joan was predeceased by Frank in 2017 and her sisters Gladys and Roberta. She is survived by her children Sandra, Brian and Roger. Grandchildren, Ronnie, Andy, Headie and Bryar. She also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Her family would like to express many thanks to the wonderful people at Polson Extended Care Home for the loving care they provided her as a guest there.
A Celebration of Moms life will be held at Thomas Hayes Ecological Park to be announced at a later date.
