Obituary for Jerry Blight
November 12, 1941 – January 17, 2022
Jerry Blight – animikii hasung-iban passed peacefully into spirit in the early morning hours of January 17, 2022 with his daughters and his sister Amber at his side.
Jerry was predeceased by his loving wife Martha Blight, his parents John and Elizabeth Blight, his older brother David Blight, and grandson Bradly Kirkrude Jr.
Jerry was dedicated to family and took these responsibilities to heart. At the very young age of 14, Jerry left school to work underground in the mines in Quebec. From 1962-1965 he served in the Canadian Navy on a Destroyer called the St. Laurent. He also spent time as a guide on the waters that were so special to him – Lake of the Woods. Jerry worked for several years as the communications person at the Fort Frances Airport before returning to mining in Ignace, Ontario and finally, Lynn Lake, Manitoba.
Jerry was a person that appreciated creation, he loved to be outdoors on the land and waters. He greatly enjoyed reading and learning about history, geography, and the sciences. He was a person that carried much knowledge and was always willing share with younger family members and friends. He was always interested in new things and took the time to learn these skills such as tennis, chess, backgammon, photography, carpentry, and many other techniques and activities. He was humble, kind, and gracious and made people feel at ease and accepted.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters Shannon (Roger), and Susan. Sisters Forest (John), Amber, Star, Elaine. Brothers Wayne (Cathy), Westy, Trevor, Ardy, and Irving (Geraldine). Sister-in-law Betty. Grandchildren Fawn Bruyere and Nico Spencer. Numerous nieces and nephews, and step-son Badgy (Bradley Kirkrude).
A private visitation and service will occur with cremation to follow with his final resting place near Lake of the Woods.
