Obituary of Jennifer Lynne Brown
In loving memory of our deeply devoted mother, Jennifer (Sue/Susan) Lynne Brown, who’ s vibrant spirit left us suddenly after a courageous battle against aggressive Cancer on December 31st, 2021 in Langley, British Columbia at the age of 72.
Jennifer was born in Toronto, Ontario on October 12, 1949. Although born in Toronto she spent a great deal of time in Montreal, Quebec before eventually making her way to mainland British Columbia. After earning several diplomas in Health Care (Residential Care Attendant, Diploma in Dementia) she eventually acquired a degree in nursing from Douglas College which sparked an extensive and rewarding career she excelled in. Jennifer was deeply immersed in a wide range of sectors including: Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Palliative Care, Psych Ward, Assisting in the OR and winding down her career with private care for the elderly. She has worked in numerous Health Care institutions such as: Woodlands Hospital, Riverview Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital, BC Cancer Institute then concluding with Foyer Maillard Retirement Home, Bayshore Home Health and private care.
Known by many of her friends as Sue/Susan, Jennifer was truly a rose that grew from concrete. She had to endure an inequitable childhood, rife with adversity, derived from being an orphan and the historic nature of the time period in which she grew up. Through this she developed the strong willed character and fierce survival instinct required to independently push forward well before the age of adulthood. Despite this hand she was able to succeed in creating the family she thrived to have and making a compassionate, impactful difference in the lives of others.
Jennifer thoroughly enjoyed the company of animals, nature in general and nurturing plants and flowers, possessing an innate green thumb. Being outgoing with a charming personality, she also enjoyed Bingo, a community where at least a few of her numerous long term friendships sprouted from. She was incredibly artistic and creative utilizing her artistic flair to further enhance her surroundings into those of elegance and inviting warmth. On top of being able to command the French language, a requisite for the time she spent in Montreal, Jennifer was also a gifted dancer and hair stylist having held jobs as both prior to advancing towards her career in Health Care.
We are grateful she was strong enough to live her life up into the finale, on her terms, surrounded by many, many friends and loved ones. She knew people from quite literally all walks of life. A proud Canadian and selfless contributor of the community, she will be long remembered for her resonating smile and heartfelt laughter, her kind and generous spirit, and for her loving and giving heart. Jennifer was most proud of her children and grandchildren. Being a talented cook, she would enjoy preparing memorable meals for the family, another hobby that complimented her endless devotion of time to her children. Her values and morals will forever leave an impression of encouragement and support in the lives of all who have had the pleasure of engaging with her on her journey.
Jennifer is survived by her children Susie (Steve) and Gerald (Sheona), her grandchildren Kane, Colton and Tyson, preceded in death by her beloved son James. She desired to live a life of purpose and so in the grace of God and to those whom she loved and those who loved her, she succeeded. We mourn our loss but not her death as she will eternally live on.
Upon her request a private Wake will be announced at a later date once arranged.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Jennifer
