Obituary
Jemima Strachan, known to most as simply Mae, of Glacier View Lodge passed peacefully on July 03, 2022 at the age of 93 years. Mae was born in Scotland, where she grew up, went to school, played goal for Scotland’s Field Hockey team and in 1949 met her future husband Jack at a dance in Glasgow. They were happily married for 61 years.
Mae and Jack came to Canada in 1957 with their two young sons, Ian and Doug, in tow. They settled in Bowmanville, Ontario and then moved on to Oshawa. In 1985 when Jack retired, they took on a bold new adventure and moved to Comox BC. Mae loved everything the Comox Valley had to offer, embraced it all with gusto and immediately knew this was the place for her and Jack to retire.
During the early years in the Valley, Mae worked from time to time, but her real love was coffee with friends, tennis, golf, skiing, bike riding and volunteering at the Comox Valley Therapeutic Riding Society. As well, Mae and Jack took to the ocean and to the mountains with many wonderful adventures and experiences.
One of Mae’s greatest attributes was the ability to meet and befriend anyone. In doing so, she quickly established a huge network of friends who remained in her heart and soul throughout her joyful 37 years in the Comox Valley.
She leaves her two sons Ian (Patti) and Doug (Noreen), three grandchildren Courtney (Jeff), Jess (Mike) and Kelly (Steve) and three great grand-children Peyton, Alden and Ivy. Mae was predeceased by her sister Jenny in 2008 and husband Jack in 2012.
On behalf of her family, we would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Stevenson Place and Glacier View Lodge, the VIHA nurses, support workers, nurses and doctors who became such a loving, supportive presence in Mae’s life.
Yours was a life well lived, and you will be missed.
