Obituary
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Jean Virginia (D’Arcy) Wood which occurred at Shannex-Embassy Hall on Friday, September 9th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 30th, 1926, in Saint John, NB, she is the daughter of the late Hiram and Louise (Laing) D’Arcy. In her earlier years, Jean went to England and worked as a Nurses Aide at Birmingham Hospital. She returned to Canada in 1964 and held various office positions. Jean volunteered at the Saint John Regional Hospital and other various support organizations. She was a former member of the ACW at St. Paul’s Church in Hampton, the Quilting Guild at Portland United Church and a life member/partner of NBTel Pioneers. Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was always kind and took life in stride. Her prime focus was caring for her family and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Jean is survived by her sons David Wood (Cheryll) of Kentville, NS, Clive Wood of Long Point, NB and Bruce Wood (Carol) of Rothesay, NB; brother Delbert D’Arcy (Ruth) of Hampton, NB; daughter-in-law Beth Wood; grandchildren Sherry, Christina, Tony, Robbie, Linda, Andrea, Jennifer, Ashley, Meaghan and Gregory; many great grandchildren; special friends Susan, Paula and Cheryl; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Norman and brothers James, Leycester, Gilbert, and Glenmore and sisters Olive and Sue.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Tuesday, September 13th from 11 – 12 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place in the Fundy chapel at 12 noon followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Romero House or to the SPCA-Animal Rescue.
