WOODROOF, Jean Marie – 68, of Yarmouth passed away on February 9, 2022, at home. Born in Yarmouth she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Margaret Penney. Jean, “Big Jean” as she was known to many of her daughter’s friends or “Madame Gonzo” to her coworkers, was a RN for over 35 years at YRH. To her coworkers she was known as the prankster of the maternity ward, but to her patients she was the calming force needed during labour and delivery. Jean’s laugh and love of life was contagious to those around her, especially her daughter Gina and the long list of un biological children that looked to her as a mom. During Gina’s childhood the Woodroof house was the hub of the community with Jean at the centre, providing a safe place to make memories and feel loved. Jean’s greatest adventure in life was being “Nan” to her granddaughter Skyler. Playing dress up, school, Carmen Sandiego, kitchen, drawing pictures, watching the “funny people ” on GSN and cheering on the hockey game. Jean will also be remembered as being a lover of a good book, BINGO and Rod Stewarts number one fan. Jean has left us with a lifetime of memories and laughter, and she would want you to share those memories and find comfort in the time you spent together. Jean is survived by her daughter, Gina Woodroof; granddaughter, Skyler Woodroof; “her kids”, Trista, Luke and Nan’s boy, Harrison Jacquard. Her beloved dog and only pet she grew to love, Tay. Brother-in-law, Lolly Surette; sisters, Lynn Gavel and Bernice Gould; aunts, uncles, cousins, many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews who all held a special place in her heart and close friend Ron Porter. Jean was predeceased by husband, Greg “Woody” Woodroof; her parents, Margaret and Stanley Penney; sister, Ann Surette; brother, Neil Penney; niece, Stephanie Penney; brother-in-law, Larry Gavel; maternal grandparents, Mamie and Wilfred Deveau and paternal grandparents, Aurilla and Delmar Penney. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Port Maitland Consolidated Elementary School breakfast program. There will be no visitation or funeral service, as per Jeans wishes a celebration of life will be held at a later date when restrictions lift.
