With profound sadness we announce the passing of Jean (June) Frances Forth, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend to all whose lives she touched. June was the devoted wife to Ron; daughter to Fred & Mary Thompson; mother to her children Brad (Deanna), Craig, and Jenny; and granny to grandchildren Colton, Zack, Lucy, Jordan, and Cooper.
June passed away peacefully in her sleep in the comfort of her home on July 1st, 2022, at the age of 91.
June was born in Souris, Manitoba on May 4th, 1931. She grew up as the only child on her family’s wheat farm in Carnduff, Saskatchewan. It was there that June learned everything from cooking and sewing to operating and fixing heavy farm equipment. This laid the foundation for June to be an incredibly competent and capable person throughout her life.
June & her parents moved to Toronto during the war where June easily transitioned to big city life. She was student secretary treasurer of her large Toronto high school and was on the Eaton’s Student Council. It was there that she met her husband and partner in great adventures, Ron. She moved to Winnipeg after high school to attend the University of Manitoba, earning a degree in Home Sciences. Ron moved to Winnipeg to be with her. They married in 1953. June taught high school Home Economics for many years, both in Winnipeg and Rochester, Minnesota. June and Ron settled in Victoria in 1968 to raise their family. Ron and June worked as a team: June managed the roster for Ron and the other Victoria cardiologists for many years. June constantly amazed her family by fixing cars and plumbing, baking cakes, and making clothes, and driving the family motorhome. June made things work!
June was a loving person. She created a welcoming home for everyone including the four-legged variety. Her longstanding friendships with the Vans, Littles and the Blaisdells added more warmth and fun to June’s busy life. June was always up for adventure and gravitated to outdoor adrenaline sports. She was an outstanding skier and windsurfer. She loved setting sail on her windsurfer in gale force winds at Nitinat Lake, where she earned the nickname “Hurricane June.” When she started skiing, her skill and speed quickly saw her moved into the advanced men’s class. She was known to have sailed in a cyclone in Australia, where she broke four ribs and had a “fantastic day.”
June was an inspiration to many and will be deeply missed.
In honour of June’s love of animals, donations can be made to the Victoria SPCA spca.bc.ca/donations/victoria/
Please join us in celebrating June’s life on August 13, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at her daughter’s house (contact Jenny for details).

Dear Forths. Such sad news. Our condolences to you and June’s family and many friends. She was wonderful, good humoured, capable, loving and really “got stuff done”. I have great memories of her at the cabin in Alpine Meadows making masses of sandwiches for family ski days on Whistler. June will be missed.
