Jean Hately Saturday October 29th 2022

JEAN ANGES HATELY, 1932 – 2022. On October 29, 2022, our much-loved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away after a rich and full life. Jean is predeceased by her dear husband of 52 years, George (2007), sister Margaret Kucherawy (2010) and survived by her brother-in-law John Kucherawy. She will be greatly missed by her children Wendy, Drew (Tara), Kerry (Andrew) and her beloved grandchildren Nicole (Kenny) Nathan (Sabria), Grace (Justin) and Olivia (Thomas).
At the young age of 17, Jean moved from her home in Kettleby, Ontario to Toronto to embark on her Registered Nurse training at St. Joseph’s Hospital. After completing her education, Jean and George were married in September 1955 and moved to Snowball, just outside of Aurora. Jean joined York County Hospital, now Southlake, and worked as an emergency room and surgical nurse, eventually rising through the ranks to become Head Nurse and Nurse Manager. After moving to Dundas in 1979, she took on a management role at St. Joseph’s Villa, one of Ontario’s largest and most innovative long term care homes. Her final role was as a Long-Term Care Facility assessor for the Ministry of Health.
Throughout her life, Jean was a strong-willed steadfast force, the centre and strength of the family. This determination along with her intelligence, elegance and humour contributed to her ability to balance a family and career with grace. A full life for Jean, however, was more than work. In the mid 1970’s, she decided the family was going to learn to ski. She packed the car and the kids up every Saturday and headed to King Valley Ski Centre for lessons. Her foresight was instrumental in making skiing the family’s common activity. We have many shared memories of skiing together in Collingwood and on trips throughout Canada and the US.
In the early 1980’s Jean and George built their dream retirement home on the shores of Nottawasaga Bay in Collingwood. Throughout their early retirement years, they filled their time with volunteer work (Jean & George were founding members of the Georgian Triangle Lifelong Learning Institute), golfing, skiing, travelling, and hosting the grandchildren during the summer holidays. After George passed in 2007, Jean continued to be very active in the community. She loved her regular bridge and euchre games, was active in Probus and volunteered at Beaver Valley Outreach in Thornbury, lovingly restoring toys and games for the children. Along with her good friend John Beard she continued to travel, attend movie nights, and engage in an active social life.
Mom, Gma, Grandma, Jean had a wonderful 90 years and will be deeply missed! She, above all else, showed us what unconditional love and empathy for others looked like.
Please join the family in a celebration of Jean’s life on Sunday December 18, 2022, at 49 Madeline Drive, Collingwood ON (Mom’s house) between 1pm -5pm with a toast to Mom at 3pm.
As per Jean’s wishes, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Georgian Triangle – Campbell House hospicegeorgiantriangle.com/donate/ and the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital cgmhf.com/donate
