Our Walking Angel has been called home. And she would say “About Time”
Jean Evelyn Leone (Gallaugher) Beach passed away in her home at the age of 94 on April 8th, 2022 with family at her side. Jean was born in Melancthon Township June 23rd, 1927 to Evelyn and Bonnar Gallaugher.
In her many years she has seen some changes going from horse and buggy to fast cars. She graduated from Centre Dufferin District High School in 1945. Growing up on a farm Jean and her sisters were boarded in Shelburne to attend school through the week and went home for the weekends.
Jean’s first major journey after moving to Toronto was to go to England for 8 weeks. She loved to travel and England was the first of many adventures. She had a love for mountains and she had many fond memories of road trips with her sisters and friends.
Jean discovered the Bahá’í Faith at the age of 27 in Toronto and became a guide at the Bahá’í Temple in Wilmette, Illinois. This is where she met her future husband, Bruce. They were married June 9th, 1962. Bruce would say that “she has been guiding me ever since”. They have been devoted Baha’is for over 60 years and caring for others was a big part of their lives. Bruce would bring people into their home, but it was Jean that made sure everyone was fed and taken care of. Bruce and Jean moved to the U.S. and over the next 10 years, they had work and adventures in several states. In the 70’s they moved to Sault Ste Marie, Canada, then to Kirkland Lake, finally settled back in Horning’s Mills. They became a major part of the community. Jean was a member of the Women’s Institute for over 50 years. Jean’s passions were gardening, natural health and painting.
Preceding her in death was her son Bahj’i (deceased 1979) and husband Bruce (deceased May 10th, 2021). Family that survive are her children: Bahia Beach Eldner, (Innisfil) and Bonnar Beach (Barrie). Also surviving are three of her stepchildren, Timothy Beach, (Texas); Brenda Steward and Brian Beach (both of Kansas). Jean is survived by her dedicated grandchildren: Shayna Pacheco and Evan Eldner (both of Melancthon) as well as one sister, Letia Lesson.
Jean shared many loving and laughable moments with her family and friends. She was loved and a joy to her family. She will be greatly missed and well-remembered.
Graveside Service will be April 14th at Bahj’i du Canada Memorial Site.

It so sad to hear of Mrs. Beach’s passing. Although I hardly ever talked with her I knew of her and Mr. Beach when I moved to Hornings Mills many years ago. Our sincere condolences to her family.
