Jean Durling
Hartlen – 85, of Truro went home to our Lord on
February 8, 2022 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Born in
Kingston, Nova Scotia she was a daughter of the late Rosie (Bruce) and
Victor Durling. She, along with her twin sister June, were adopted by
Myrtle (Bruce) and Frank Richardson.
Jean is survived by
her husband, Alfred; daughters, Wanda Scott (Brian); Cathy Coates
(Glenn); granddaughter, Chelsey Coates; step-sons, Arthur (Betty);
Dwayne (Debbie); many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, as
well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her
first husband, Roderick Doyle; sisters, June O’Donnell and
Joan Baron.
Jean made many
friends, especially during her 25 plus years in the circulation
department of the Truro Daily News. A life-long member of the Immanuel
Baptist Church in Truro, she had a special appreciation to Pastor
Corey Somers for spiritual guidance and re-dedication baptism in her
later years. Jean loved shopping at Value Village, trips to the Casino
and spent hours working on jigsaw puzzles.
The family would like
to thank the medical personnel of the Intensive Care Unit at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their compassion and attention
in Jean’s final days.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young
Street, Truro, where Jean’s family will receive friends from
2-4 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2022. (Please note that
due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 50 people will be permitted to
attend visitation; proof of double vaccination and face masks are
required.) Funeral service will be held 2 p.m.,
Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Mattatall – Varner Funeral
Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, Reverend Michael Fredericks officiating.
(Please note that due to Covid-19
restrictions, only 50 people will be permitted to attend so
pre-registration is required by calling 902-893-3177; proof of double
vaccination and face masks are required.) Live webcast
of the funeral service will be available at 1:55 p.m., Saturday,
February 12, 2022, and will remain on this website for some
time. Interment will be held in Bible Hill Cemetery
at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian
Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
