Obituary for Jean Chandler
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Jean Chandler on the 31st of March 2022 at the age of 80 years. Jean lived in Toronto Ontario, but was born and spent most of her life in Halifax Nova Scotia.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Corey, her sisters Ruth, Cynthia, Heather and Natalie, and her brother Richard, as well as her granddaughter Iyanna and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Avery and Edith.
Jean was one of the first Black students to graduate from the RNA program at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. She started her nursing career in London Ontario, then moved on to Toronto. Eventually she returned to Halifax to become one of the few operating room technicians of colour at the old Halifax Infirmary Hospital in Nova Scotia, where she worked for over 30 years.
A fiercely loyal mother and Aunt, faith was a huge part of Jean’s life. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, cake decoration, knitting her famous slippers for family, and a good musical (her favourite was the Sound of Music)
Always quick with a kind word and a smile Aunt Jeannie will be missed.
A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date.
