Jean Arlene Aker March 26 1937 February 2 2022

Jean Aker of High River, Alberta passed away on February 2, 2022 at the age of 84.
Jean is survived by her daughter Carla, (Hildor), grandson Jason (Krystal), granddaughter Julie (Scott), great-grandchildren Brooklynn, Ella, Everley, Judah, Adele and Lincoln, as well as her sisters Yvonne (Jim), and Myra (Gordon), her brother Doug (Dan) and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Austin, son Keith, great grandson Levi and her parents Carl and Marion Alexander.
Jean was born in Lethbridge, AB and was raised on the family farm at Cayley. Jean would say she was a “tough old bird”, having had Polio as a child she had physical struggles, but lived everyday for the adventure! Getting in the car, going anywhere at anytime and off the beaten path.
Jean met the love of her life, Austin – an Easterner, at a dance at the East Longview Hall. They were married on April 20,1957 and enjoyed living life together for 56 years until Austin’s passing in 2013.
Jean and Austin lived in Calgary when Keith was born and then farmed at Balzac, where Carla was born and then moved into Calgary in 1963, raising their family in Mayland Heights. The family enjoyed the great outdoors with fishing, camping, travelling many times across Canada to Austin’s homeland of Nova Scotia. There were dances and many a card game! Jean and Austin moved to High River in 1985 and enjoyed being a part of the community, meeting up with family and friends from when Jean grew up in Cayley.
Jean truly enjoyed time with family and friends to the fullest and made sure her Grandchildren knew what adventure looked like. Jean was also very proud to be a Great-Grandma!
Even though Jean didn’t play sports she enjoyed watching most games and was an avid follower of curling, over the past few years she would phone her sisters to ask what channel she should be on.
Jean’s positive attitude and outlook on life was contagious. She was always looking for birds or field flowers, and could spot wildlife a mile away!
Jean had a spicy demeanour and was quick witted with an eye roll that could shame any teenager – Jason and Julie included.
Mom would want us all to take time to:
* stop and smell the flowers
* look for the birds
* eat the chocolate
And
* enjoy a “swig”
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the High River District Health Care Foundation (560-9th Ave S.W., High River, Alberta T1V 1B3), www.highriverhealthfoundation.ca/donate-now
A Celebration of Jean’s life will take place at the Highwood Golf and Country Club on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 2-4 PM.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff at South Health Unit #66 for their care for Jean.
