Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Jean Aldag, age 82, announce her passing on Sunday, April 3, 2022 after a brief battle with an illness at the Regina General Hospital. She was surrounded by family during her final moments and is greatly missed.
Jean leaves behind her husband of 42 years Calvin, three sons Terrance, Duane, and Steven, and one daughter Vernageen (Colin). Also left to mourn are her grandchildren Ashley (Mitchell) and Anthony, and her great-grandson, Finley. Along with them are her sister Francis and brother Arthur (Marge), brother-in-law Don (Kaye) and sister-in-law Coleen (Glen), along with many other extended family and friends.
Jean was predeceased by her parents and parents-in-law, brother Larry, brother-in-law Ed, brother-in-law Bert, daughter-in-law Debbie, and Smokey (resident canine and dearest companion).
Jean had many jobs to learn – farm life was one of her biggest. Going from working in a nursing home and other jobs to a rural lifestyle, it certainly didn’t take long to understand what random flailing arm movements meant, and that there would always be at least one cow that decided it was in charge, not her. After tending gardens and flowerbeds, her downtime was spent knitting, crocheting, tatting, and her baby blankets and baby clothes were second to none. Her ability to create afghans, sweaters, and bedspreads from a small, little Mary Maxim pattern is truly a gift that many don’t possess.
She was self-taught to play the organ, she would take a photograph and a sketchpad and draw it as if it was her own, and always enjoyed her painting kits and has many pieces to show for it. She doesn’t need any explanation of her cooking and baking skills – her children to this day would still fight to the end for the very last of her do-boys and cinnamon buns and no one is sure if they’ll ever truly know her brown bean recipe!
There are many individuals and services that the family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the care and attention that she received. First and foremost, the staff at Willow Creek Manor in Swift Current who always showed Jean (and Calvin) the utmost of respect, attention, and devotion during her residency there. To the incredible staff in the Swift Current emergency room upon her arrival and also the phenomenal staff in the Regina General Hospital emergency room and subsequent ICU unit. All of you had a hand in her comfort and care.
A funeral service will not be held at this time, arrangements are being made for a graveside service at Good Hope Cemetery, SK at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and for those wishing in memory of Jean Aldag, donations made to Willow Creek Manor in Swift Current would be appreciated by the family.
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” A.A. Milne.
