JANITS Eva nee Imreh February 17

Feb. 6, 1924 – Feb. 17, 2022
Passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in Montreal on February 17, 2022 after a long life of dedication to her family and heritage. Beloved wife of the late Gyula Janits, devoted mother of Katalin (Janits Tokes) and Julius. Dear Nagyi of Ildiko (Mike), Istvan and Emese Tokes (Raf) and great-grandmother of Sophie, Nicholas and Lily Pratt. Beloved second mother of Gyula, Ildiko and Julia Kovacs, the children of her sister whom she accompanied to help her, and her family, escape the horrors of WWII. Born in Székelyudvarhely, Transylvania to a prominent and noble Székely family, she was the last immediate descendant of Dr. Domokos Imreh, a highly respected surgeon, hospital founder-director, philanthropist and innovator ahead of his time. Loved by family and friends in Hungary, Canada — her new-found homeland she fled to in 1952 — and the USA, she will be fondly remembered for her kindness and genuine interest in those she knew. Loyal employee of 28 years at the Jewish General Hospital biochemistry lab.
Her family thanks everyone at Father Dowd Home for the devoted care she received. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Hungarian United Church, 50 Graham Blvd, Mount Royal, QC, H3P 2C1. May she Rest in Peace.
