de Salaberry, Janine
1935-2022
Our dear mother, Nana and great-grandmother Janine died peacefully on Sunday June 26th.
Full of curiosity and zest for life, her love of art, good food, meeting new people and being outdoors was nourished by a life living and working overseas with her husband Louis and their four children. Raised in Sault Ste Marie, Janine (née Blum) left to study in Montreal at McGill and worked for a spell restoring antiques. She met Louis at McGill and they embarked on a shared adventure serving Canada in diplomatic missions in Germany, Tunisia, India and Sweden. After retirement she embraced life in Almonte, where she befriended other artists and supported cultural activities in the town, while also making time to tend her garden, take daily brisk walks and receive grand-children for weekend-visits. There are so many happy memories to share and a celebration of her life will be held where friends and family can do so. (Kindly contact family for details.) Burial will be at the Auld Kirk Cemetery in a private family event. Janine generously shared love with friends and family, often showing how much she cared through delicious food – ideally served outdoors! She is survived by her sisters Alix and Margot, her children Simone (Matthew), Katryn, Lara (Hans) and Nicolas (Tanya), numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her wonderful (14!) grand-children and (14!!) great-grand-children. Special thanks to Hazel Chabot, for the many ways she showed love and fierce commitment to Janine’s wellbeing. Also deep appreciation to the staff at CLSD Montfort for the many ways they worked to make her last years as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, donations to SeedChange, Environmental Defence, the Suzuki Foundation, or Parkinson Canada would be appreciated.
