Janice Marion Wright began her life in the city of Montreal on January 10, 1962. When she was about a month old, she was adopted by Reverend Grant and Gwendolyn Wright. When she was five years old her family moved to Toronto and then to Winnipeg when she was twelve. As a child she enjoyed many church and family activities, especially time at the family cottage at Wilburforce. Music was always a big part of her growing up years, taking piano lessons, voice lessons, singing in choirs and taking part in church and school performances. After completing high school, she spent a year at Capernwray Bible School in England. Upon her return to Winnipeg, she attended the University of Manitoba, earning a degree in Education. While in high school and university she worked at several different part time jobs but especially enjoyed her time at Swiss Chalet.
After graduating from university in the spring of 1986, she married Jim Unrau and moved to the small southern Manitoba farming community of Snowflake. This was a time of many changes in her life, a new career, a new marriage, living in the country, and her parents moving back to Ontario. Janice found herself in many different and varied teaching situations including teaching elementary grades, kindergarten, home school, and substitute teaching in several schools.
As a result of many moves during her lifetime Janice attended a number of churches. In Toronto her father pastored Westmount Park Church. In Winnipeg she attended Bethesda Church where her father also pastored. She spent some time at Burrows Bethel Church prior to her move out of the city. While in Snowflake she attended Crystal City Mennonite Church and Cornerstone Ministries Church. After the move to Manitou in 2014, she attended Manitou Christian Fellowship. Her deep faith and the churches she attended were very important to her as demonstrated by her service in a variety of roles.
Janice always enjoyed theatre, as a spectator, as a performer or working behind the scenes. She had the privilege of performing in Oak Valley Productions enactment of the Passion Play for thirteen years and then working behind the scenes for a number of years after that. She also enjoyed working with Candlewick Productions for many years doing anything from acting to selling tickets.
Janice enjoyed many trips to other countries including many parts of the USA, France, England, Poland, Check Republic, Austria and especially Germany. Her attraction to Germany led to numerous trips there. She attended weddings, the Oberamagau Passion Play, and toured various cities and historic sites throughout Europe. She also hosted a couple of students from Germany to attend a year of school in Canada. Her many friends abroad were always a delight to her.
After a courageous battle with liver disease, Janice passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2022 at the age of 59 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Reverend Grant and Gwendolyn Wright. She is survived by her husband Jim, her daughter Jody (Chris) Peters, her grandchildren Zoey, Malachi, and Emily Peters, her brother Phillip (Catherine) Wright and their family.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre for the exceptional care Janice received during her extended stay there.
