Janet was born March 16, 1932, in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland. During her time there Janet worked for a period for the Post Office in Newfoundland, delivering telegrams and then moved on to work in a Herring Factory packing sardines in cans. In 1948 she married Floyd, 3rd Mate on the Great Lakes & Gulf of St Lawrence vessel, Birchton. After marriage, she left the Rock and moved to Floyd’s hometown of Port Colborne to start their life. After moving to Port Colborne, Janet was busy taking care of family and homelife. She was involved at First Lutheran Church and the East Side Ladies Auxiliary for over 30 years. After Floyd’s passing in 1991 she became an active member of the community, spending her time volunteering at Arabella’s Tea Room, Northland Pointe and as one of Santa’s Helpers. Janet’s outstanding efforts and timeless hours devoted to serving her community was recognized in 2012 and she was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee
She enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends. She loved to dance and sing, play Yahtzee, Sequence, work on puzzles and meeting new people.
